Arrival

Leaving denver, heading to Atlanta.

Sitting at the VERY back of the plane to Lima.

Rory, the taxi driver.

Well, now I've done it. I have entered the blogosphere. I have also successfully entered Peru. The trip was mostly uneventful. The only moment of uncertainty was when I arrived at the airport in Lima and was not sure how to find my sister. A very kind porter who spoke less English than I do Spanish tried to help. First he asked if I had a phone # for Heather. Then tried to help me use the payphone to call her, but I did not know which digits were necessary to call from Peru... In the end, he had a friend with a cell phone who called my sister and we were connected. Phew!

Our taxi driver from the airport to Heather's domicile was a friend of hers. He was very kind, but also spoke less English than I speak Spanish. I will definitely need to get cracking on some language acquisition! I now have a greater appreciation of the difficulty my non-English speaking patients face in our country.

On arrival at the house, we had a brief tour of the important features of the first floor, Heather and Blanca's area. Then off to bed at about 2 am local time. This morning after a bit of a sleep in and breakfast Peruvian style (more on that later), I had a more inclusive tour of the whole house and an introduction to the residents. The house is quite nice in comparison to others in the neighborhood.

Today we plan to go the the market, which promises to be a new experience for me. I will try to post about that soon! For now, know that I am safely ensconced in the casa de mi hermana. Arrival
